Preisregen beim Automobil-Event Amelia Island


Eines steht fest: die Jury der diesjährigen 18. Veranstaltung des Concours d’Elegance auf Amelia Island hatte alle Hände voll zu tun. Immerhin waren insgesamt 122 Preise, die verliehen wurden und aus der Schar der zum Wettbewerb angetretenen Oldtimer ausgewählt werden mussten.

Natürlich wurde auch hier – wie allerorts im Jahr 2013 – der legendäre Porsche 911 gefeiert. „Porsche hat seine Motorsporthistorie und das was sie für die Kunden, die heute einen 911 kaufen bedeutet, nicht vergessen“, erläutert Porsche Nordamerika-Chef Detlev von Platen. Kein Wunder, dass die Porsche 911, die bei Amelia zu sehen waren das Sahnehäubchen der jemals produzierten Fahrzeuge darstellten. Als bester in seiner Klasse gewann Bruce Meyer mit dem 1979 Porsche 935 K-3, dem Le Mans Sieger von 1979. Nach 30 Jahren Stillstand in der Garage durfte der Sportwagen erstmals frisch restauriert wieder in der Öffentlichkeit glänzen.

Rund 25.000 Zuschauer waren gekommen, um die klassischen Fahrzeuge aus aller Welt zu bestaunen. Mehr als 300 Oldtimer aus berühmten Sammlungen, privaten Garagen oder Museen nahmen am Wettbewerb teil. Aus den Siegern der einzelnen Klassen lobte die Jury schließlich den Gesamt-Gewinner „Best of Show“ aus. Ein 1936 Duesenberg SJN aus dem Besitz von by Helen und Jack Nethercutt aus der Nethercutt Collection in Kalifornien bekam die begehrte Auszeichnung im Bereich „Concours d’Elegance“. Der Wagen gilt als eines der schönsten offenen Fahrzeuge der 1930er Jahre überhaupt und ist ausgestattet mit einem eindrucksvollen 420 HP 8-Zylinder-Reihen-Motor. Den Preis „Best of Show Concours de Sport“ bekam ein 1968 Ford GT 40 aus der Rocky Mountain Auto Collection.
